Fees are cut for access to Financial Times online
LONDON: The Financial Times, preparing for a fierce battle with The Wall Street Journal over business readers and online advertising revenue, will give casual readers free access to its Web site this month, according to executives at The Financial Times.
The Web site of the London-based business newspaper, which currently charges for much of its content online, as of mid-October will allow users to get up to 30 articles per month for free, said John Ridding, chief executive of the newspaper.

Storing files on the Internet, Microsoft style
Microsoft is moving to deliver more software technology over the Internet as a service, forced to follow an industry trend led by Google, its newest archrival.
But its strategy is a careful balancing act, adding Internet services without offering online versions of its most lucrative desktop products like Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Microsoft is making announcements Monday that it plans to offer a free service, called Office Live Workspace, that will allow people to store, access and share documents online.

PALO ALTO, California: Four software designers who were instrumental in the creation of Google's popular e-mail and mapping services have founded a new company with the intent of making it easy for people to find out what Web material their friends are enjoying.
The company, FriendFeed, is the brainchild of Bret Taylor and Jim Norris, two of the programmers who built Google Maps.

Nokia in talks to acquire Navteq: report (Reuters)
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cellphone maker Nokia (NOK1V.HE) was deep in discussions on Sunday night to buy navigation software maker Navteq Corp (NVT.N), the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. ADVERTISEMENT
