On Tuesday, Mandriva announced that it had won a hotly-contested contract to install its Linux distribution on top of 17,000 Intel-powered Classmate PCs in Nigeria. On Wednesday, the Nigerian client told Mandriva that it would buy the Linux software as planned, but would rip it out and install Windows. And so Mandriva took its dispute public. NEW YORK (Reuters) - International Business Machines Corp (IBM.N) is launching a "major initiative" to drive sales in the data security market, including $1.5 billion in spending next year on marketing and product development, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday in its online edition. Still several years away from a commercial release, the company’s flexible, wireless patch — also capable of serving as a dedicated heart rate monitor — sends ECG or EMG (muscular) data in a continuous stream to either a PC or data logger for later downloading. We’ve had with this little guy already, but Verizon Wireless has finally fessed up to a precise release date and price point for its EV-DO BlackBerry Pearl 8130. The phone is available for pre-order at $200 with a 2 year contract and an automatic $100 online discount, and will ship out on November 8th. Let’s see if that’s good enough to beat to market.
