Folding@Home recognized by Guinness World Records

Finally getting the street cred that its creators have so long desired, the multi-platform, distributed computing network known as is to be recognized by Guinness World Records. According to the group, the network is now the most powerful distributed computing cluster in the world. The system, which utilizes the power of more than 670,000 PS3s, PCs, and lawnmower motors to crunch data, has overall computational capabilities greater than a petaflop (which is a ton of flops). Alcatel-Lucent's head of enterprise systems, Hubert de Pesquidoux, will take on the role of chief financial officer as part of a management shake-up intended to streamline decision-making. San Francisco (IDGNS) - Google's stock broke through the $700 mark on Wednesday, after press reports that the search engine giant is in advanced talks with U.S. wireless carriers over adoption of mobile phone software Google is reportedly developing. On Tuesday evening, and The Wall Street Journal, quoting anonymous sources, reported that Google and Verizon Wireless are making progress in drafting a mobile partnership. OK, it has happened: we're officially old. When you sheepishly tell your children that you used to have to watch TV shows by sitting down in a certain place at a certain time - well, you know you are old.

First came the TiVo and its ilk, eliminating the bit about sitting down “at a certain time.” Then came the Slingbox from Sling Media, which obliterated the need to be “in a certain place.” Later, SlingPlayer Mobile software for cellphones even wiped out the part about “sitting down.”

Of course, the Slingbox is not nearly as famous as the TiVo; you may not even have heard of it.
